Plenty of top-notch poker tournaments occur in south Florida during the fall. One major tournament, the $1 million CoCo Poker Open at Seminole Coconut Creek Casino, concluded this week. Three other tournaments are scheduled in the area over the next couple months.

The WQAM Tournament, at Mardi Gras Casino, happens this Friday. The Isle Poker Open, at the Isle Casino Pompano Park, begins this week, with the feature tournament later this month. During the second half of November, Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood hosts the Rock ‘N Roll Poker Open.


CoCo Poker Open. Professional poker player John Dugan took home $219,500 for his first-place finish in this weeklong No Limit Hold ‘Em Championship event. He split the pot with runner ups Raymond McDonough and Bruce Snell, who each took home $150,000. There were 419 entries.

Daily action: The casino hosts multi-player tournaments on most days.

WQAM Tournament. Local sport-radio DJ Joe Rose hosts the WQAM Tournament at Mardi Gras Casino on Oct. 10. In reference to the radio stations location on the dial at 560 AM, the buy in is $56. The event, held in the casino’s Big Easy Poker Room, also includes giveaways, food and drink specials, and appearances by other WQAM on-air talent.

Daily action: The casino hosts a Free Roll tournament every night.

Isle Poker Open. Running for 20 straight days starting on Oct. 8, this tournament in the casino’s poker room includes nine events, nine side events and 15 satellites. The four-day, $1,200 main event (Oct. 23-27) features a guaranteed prize pool of $400,000.

Daily action: The casino hosts daily tournaments, except Wednesday and Sunday.

Micosukkee Casino. Tournaments every day, plus free lessons.

Gulfstream Park. Tournaments are held every night at 6:30 p.m.

Hialeah Park. Offers daily tournaments, with $100,000 pots guaranteed during holiday weeks.

Magic City Casino. Stages daily sit-and-go tournaments, plus a Monday night tournament.

Casino Miami. Tournaments are held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Dania Jai Alai. Two tournaments every day, featuring small buy ins.
