A festival celebrating beer??? Sounds like heaven!

Oktoberfest started in 1810 in Munich, Germany as a wedding celebration of then Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen who married on October 17, 1810. This festival would run 16-18 days! All of the citizens were invited to celebrate with the happy couple. They named the field in which the festival was held Theresienwiese which translates to “Theresa’s fields” in honor of the Princess.

Beers weren’t introduced to the festival until 1887. In 1910, Oktoberfest celebrated their 100 year anniversary with over 120,000 litres of beer being poured.

Cities all over the world started adopting their own Oktoberfest events. Here in Broward County we have four.

What to Pack When Visiting South Florida

Since we are a hotel, we often get asked what one should pack when visiting Fort Lauderdale and Miami. So to help with all your packing needs we have put together a list of things that we think are essential when coming to the bottom of the map.

First on our list of course is a bathing suit, or rather, multiple bathing suits. The beaches are the biggest attractions to South Florida and the bathing suit is a must. For our ladies, you might want to bring a cover up as well like a sarong or a tunic.

Next on the list is the official uniform of South Floridians: shorts and a tank top. The weather is known to get incredibly hot so wearing the least amount of clothes as possible is almost always the best route to take. And if you can, pack clothes that are made from lightweight fabrics like silk, linen, and seersucker.
