A festival celebrating beer??? Sounds like heaven!
Oktoberfest started in 1810 in Munich, Germany as a wedding celebration of then Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen who married on October 17, 1810. This festival would run 16-18 days! All of the citizens were invited to celebrate with the happy couple. They named the field in which the festival was held Theresienwiese which translates to “Theresa’s fields” in honor of the Princess.
Beers weren’t introduced to the festival until 1887. In 1910, Oktoberfest celebrated their 100 year anniversary with over 120,000 litres of beer being poured.
