Bring your dog to the beach in south Florida! There are beaches in Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale and Miami that welcome both you and your dog on the weekends. The parks, each of which which is within a half-hour drive of Quality Inn and Suites Hollywood, are open only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

All three dog beaches require a permit to visit. You can buy daily passes at each park, even if you’re a non-resident. All three parks also sell yearly passes to local residents. The Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale dog beaches offer yearly passes to non-residents as well.

Remember to bring your dog’s rabies certificate. And keep your dog’s leash in your hand when the dog’s running free. The three great dog beaches in south Florida include:

Hollywood Dog Beach, Hollywood. This dog beach is so cool, it even has its own Facebook page. Dogs aren’t allowed on the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, so this is the next best thing. Located between Pershing Street and Custer Street, about a ½ mile north of Sheridan Street. Dogs are allowed on the beach only between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. during the weekends. Check out this great video from the dog beach.

Daily Cost: $5 resident, $10 non-resident.

Canine Beach, Fort Lauderdale. Located at the northern end of Fort Lauderdale Beach, this dog beach is open only during weekend evenings. From the centerline of Sunrise Boulevard at A1A, the permitted area runs north 100 yards on the beach. Dogs are allowed off leash, but owners must keep the leash in hand. Winter hours are from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. During the summer, hours are 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Daily Cost: $7 per weekend.

Bark Beach, Miami. Voted Best Miami Dog Beach at Urban Underground, this dog-friendly patch of sand lies between 80th Street and 81st Street in Miami Beach. It’s east of the North Shore Open Space Park, with the entrance at Collins Avenue. General dog-beach rules apply, where you must maintain possession of the dog’s leash and clean up after your pet.

Daily Cost: $5 resident, $25 non-resident, cash only onsite.
