What to Pack When Visiting South Florida

Since we are a hotel, we often get asked what one should pack when visiting Fort Lauderdale and Miami. So to help with all your packing needs we have put together a list of things that we think are essential when coming to the bottom of the map.

First on our list of course is a bathing suit, or rather, multiple bathing suits. The beaches are the biggest attractions to South Florida and the bathing suit is a must. For our ladies, you might want to bring a cover up as well like a sarong or a tunic.

Next on the list is the official uniform of South Floridians: shorts and a tank top. The weather is known to get incredibly hot so wearing the least amount of clothes as possible is almost always the best route to take. And if you can, pack clothes that are made from lightweight fabrics like silk, linen, and seersucker.

And we can’t forget sunscreen. Actually, pack multiple tubes of sunscreen. The sun can be very dangerous to your skin so by packing multiple tubes you can apply and reapply sunscreen throughout the day. Even if you plan on tanning in the sun, don’t forget to protect your skin.

Another great thing to pack are your sunglasses. Again going back to how harsh the sun can be in South Florida, you definitely want to protect your eyes. Plus, they’re pretty stylish!

The weather here in South Florida can also be a bit inconsistent. You should certainly pack an umbrella. It doesn’t have to be an industrial sized umbrella but one that you can use during sun showers.

Another must pack is a light jacket and/or sweater. Because the sun can get so hot outside, many establishments keep the air conditioned cranked up high. Walking outside and then entering a building can be a huge temperature difference. Bring a light jacket or sweater to help with the changes.

Although the beach is one of the main attractions here, the nightlife is pretty amazing as well. Make sure to pack appropriate clothes for dinner, theatre and the clubs. Many of the restaurants here have a dress code so be sure to call ahead and ask when you make your reservations.

Wanna know what else we’re known for? Our amazing shopping! From the stylish boutiques to the huge malls (Sawgrass, Aventura, and Dadeland), our shopping is world-reknowned. You might want to pack an extra duffle bag for all the things you will acquire while you’re here (wink, wink).

And last on our list (and definitely not least) you HAVE to bring your camera. From your #selfie shots, celebrity sightings to the waves crashing on the beach, you will want to capture every moment of your trip.

What else do you think is an essential item to bring when you visit South Florida?
